Supplies For Calving I get asked all the time about what supplies are needed to keep on hand for when a family milk cow calves. So much so, that it warranted a blog post. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t raid your local tractor supply and prepare a plentiful medicine cabinet, because you should, But…

How To Set Homestead Goals When I first started on this Homestead journey, I’m fairly certain my list of goals for the year looked something like this… 1. Buy all the chickens and all the goats. 2. Buy at least 4 cows, (two for milking, two for beef). 3. Build two chicken coops, a duck…

Canning enchilada verde, green tomatoes

Canning Enchilada Verde With fall comes green tomatoes.  While it’s always bittersweet to see a bunch of green tomatoes left in the garden, It’s also great way to step out of the ordinary red tomatoes recipes, so don’t let them go to waste!  Green tomatoes are excellent to eat.   Their soft, thin skin requires zero…

Finally! A Homesteaders cheesemaking book

11/16/2016 by Katie 1 Comment

David asher Book Review

As a raw dairy owner and milk cow connoisseur, I must own a dozen cheesemaking books, at least. All of them are excellent and I use them frequently, however, this one is extraordinaire and I’ll tell you why.  Cheese making is a difficult art. Truth!  It’s a science that takes trial and error and lots…

Starting a Homestead: Advice for the first year

Homesteading Advice first year | livinlovinfarmin

Starting a homestead. It all started with a chicken. A rooster actually. Living in a run down, 120 year old original homestead that was home to more mice inside then outside, I quickly began researching chemical free alternatives to eliminate these nasty unwelcome house guests. In the midst of my research I came across a…

Dairy Animal Mistakes; My Epic Failures

Dairy animal mistakes | milk cows goats | homesteading | livinlovinfarmin

Early last year, in the prime of calving season, a dear friend of mine lost her beloved dairy cow.  She had just calved a beautiful Jersey bull (one of Tanks babies) and within 12 hours of calving, the cow was down with 4th stage milk fever.  It took another 12 hours for the vet to…

Best Ever Homemade Sandwich Bread

02/26/2016 by Katie 6 Comments

Homemade bread recipe | livinlovinfarmin

Few thing smell better then fresh homemade bread in the kitchen.   A smell quick to bring back emotions and memories,  almost as if Grandma herself was standing at the counter wearing an old ragged apron. I love the simplicity of this recipe.  With the bread machine doing the majority of the work, it really…

WELCOME TO THE FARM

Hi, I’m Katie. Our family lives on our fourth generation family farm here in beautiful Idaho. We milk jersey cows, raise pastured heritage pigs and poultry, scottish highlanders for beef and a few sheep for fiber.  Our journey is about healing the body through sustainable agriculture.  After being diagnosed with a autoimmune disease several years ago, I saw a need to change the way we think about diseases in today’s modern world.

Our farm prides ourselves on selling the best meat and dairy possibly.  We do not use ANY gmo’s, corn or soy in our animal feed.  Our critters graze on fresh green pasture and are fed a locally grown, locally milled grain ration.

Our products are available farm direct or at select retail locations.
